A reflective article on the just concluded semester using the Rolphe’s reflective model.
“WHAT?”
In retrospect, my first semester was very stressful and quite demanding. It started out with a feeling of not know what to do and what the expectation for me was as regards my course works. In addition, the beginning of the semester had me in a state of being overwhelmed as a result of information overload. I felt like I was being bombarded with loads of information, which was unavoidable, and it was a bit difficult for me to process it all. In addition, another difficulty I had was being confused and not finding answers even though I had all these seemingly important information.
Something else I also struggled with was time management. This could be seen in not starting my coursworks early enough, which eventually leads to late submissions. Also, understanding the concept of critical analysis in academic writing and this greatly affected my grades in my coursework 1 most especially.
“SO WHAT?”
As the semester progressed, I was able to figure a couple of things out, especially when it came to understanding academic writing to an extent and the different learning outcomes for the semester modules. Also. My time management skills got better, drawing up a smart action plan all through the semester with reasonable deadline helped me manage the problem of procrastination. None of this was achievable without the guidance and contribution of my student success coach. It would also be noteworthy to add that being innovative and novel with my ideas helped me a great deal in my essay writing tasks.
“NOW WHAT?”
In this semester I plan on continuing working hand in hand with my student success coach. I will also actively engage the centre of academic writing (CAW), this is to ensure I am able to improve my writing style. I will continue to draw up smart action plans for my areas of development, most especially other aspects of time management I am yet to work on.
