{"id":144,"date":"2021-12-08T15:53:03","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T15:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.coventry.domains\/copyrightliteracy\/?p=144"},"modified":"2024-07-31T11:57:42","modified_gmt":"2024-07-31T10:57:42","slug":"exception-helping-disabled-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.coventry.domains\/copyrightliteracy\/2021\/12\/08\/exception-helping-disabled-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Exception: helping disabled people"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two exceptions to copyright for the benefit of disabled people:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You, or someone acting on your behalf, make a copy of a lawfully obtained copyright work in a format that helps you access the material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educational establishments and charity organisations reproduce, communicate, make available, distribute and lend accessible format copies of protected works on behalf of disabled people. The exception permits acts such as:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Making Braille, audio or large-print copies of books, newspapers or magazines for visually impaired people<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adding audio descriptions to films or broadcasts for visually impaired people<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Making sub-titled films or broadcasts for deaf or hard-of-hearing people<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Making accessible copies of books, newspapers or magazines for dyslexic people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the following requirements have to be met:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accessible copies of copyright-protected works can be made only from lawfully-accessed copies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An accessible copy can only be made by a disabled person or an authorised body acting on their behalf<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The copy can only be made for the personal use of a disabled person.
