Description

In this semester of healthcare management, I worked on diverse assignments like proposing changes, exploring critical thinking, and evaluating health systems. For the Proposal for Change, I chose a case study to meet specific learning goals. In another assignment about critical thinking, I learned to discuss ideas better but got feedback to improve how I structure my writing. Lastly, in the portfolio submission, I showed my understanding of complex health systems and used management tools. The feedback suggested improving how I write critically. Overall, this semester taught me a lot, and I plan to use the feedback to do even better in the future.

Feeling

I feel a sense of accomplishment and growth. Navigating through assignments on proposal development, critical thinking, and system evaluation, I gained a deeper understanding of healthcare complexities. The positive feedback on my strengths in conceptual discussion and case study selection is empowering, yet there’s a recognition of areas for improvement, particularly in structuring my writing more effectively. As I absorb these insights, there’s a genuine eagerness to apply constructive feedback in future assignments, fostering a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Evaluation

I am doing well in my healthcare management coursework. I am good at understanding and analyzing key concepts, solving problems, and using management tools effectively. The feedback says my assignments are nicely written with a clear flow, but there are some areas to work on. I need to avoid just describing things and be more critical in my writing, using evidence from what I have learned. It’s also suggested that I could include more real-life examples to make my points stronger. The feedback shows chances for me to get even better by digging deeper into topics, considering different perspectives, and organizing my arguments better. There’s a warning about being careful with referencing to avoid mistakes and keep things honest. Overall, it’s a positive review with some specific areas to focus on for improvement.

Action plan

I have learned a lot in my healthcare management studies during the third semester. I worked on different assignments, like suggesting changes, thinking critically, and understanding health systems. For one assignment, I chose a real-life example to help me learn better. Another task on critical thinking got me good feedback, but I need to work on how I write things. The feedback says I should use more real-life examples and be more careful with how I reference them. Overall, I feel good about what I have learned, and I am excited to use the feedback to do even better next time. I plan to practice writing better, find more real-life examples, and be more careful with my references.

Conclusion

In my second semester of healthcare management, I worked on different assignments like proposing changes and understanding health systems. I learned a lot and got good feedback, especially about using real-life examples and improving my writing. I plan to practice writing more, find more examples from real life, and be careful with how I reference.

My way of Reflection to given respective feedbacks

Gibbs’s reflective cycle is a five-step structural process from my own experience (Crowe Associates, 2019).

Description

In my 1st semester, I demonstrated a clear understanding of key concepts in public health and global health topics. I engaged in critical analysis, particularly exploring the implications of globalization on population health and evaluating the roles of global health partnerships, NGOs, and pharmaceutical industries. Additionally, my strengths include an effective analysis of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and a commendable acknowledgment of the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project.

Feelings

I feel confident in my understanding of public health concepts and have received positive feedback on my analysis of disease conditions and the COIL project, which is encouraging. Leveraging my strengths in critical thinking and practical application, I aim to deepen my knowledge through ongoing learning, especially in emerging areas of public health. I recognize the importance of enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration skills, focusing on data analysis proficiency, and refining communication abilities for diverse audiences.

Evaluation

My strengths lie in a clear understanding of key concepts in public and global health, demonstrated by my proficiency in analyzing the impact of globalization and identifying stakeholder roles. Recognition for a well-executed analysis of Non-Communicable Diseases showcases a solid grasp of disease conditions. Identified weaknesses include the need to enhance the depth of analysis, address reference errors impacting academic integrity, and improve conclusion summarization. Opportunities lie in expanding analysis depth and enhancing collaborative skills through the COIL project. Threats include the risk of incomplete analysis jeopardizing academic standards and persistent referencing challenges affecting overall credibility. Addressing these issues is crucial for a more robust and scholarly approach in future analyses.

Action plan:

To make my analysis more detailed, I’ll take a closer look at important areas to really understand them better. I want to be sure I’m not missing anything important. To get better at referencing, I’ll go over my citations carefully and make sure every statement I make has the right support. For the conclusion, I’ll put extra effort into summarizing the main points clearly to make it stronger. To grow and get better at analyzing and working with others, I’ll actively participate in my classes and join collaborative projects like the COIL initiative. This way, I can learn more hands-on and improve how I work with others. By doing all this, I aim to not just fix my current challenges but also be more prepared for future analyses.

Summary

I demonstrated a strong grasp of public health concepts, particularly in analyzing the impact of globalization and evaluating stakeholder roles. Positive feedback on my analysis of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and involvement in the COIL project boosted my confidence. However, identified weaknesses include the need for a deeper analysis, addressing reference errors, and improving conclusion summarization. To address these, I plan to delve deeper into key areas, refine referencing skills, and strengthen conclusions. I also aim to enhance collaborative skills through active participation in classes and projects, ensuring a more prepared and scholarly approach in future analyses.

Reflection to my 1st semester Feedbacks:

Rolfe’s reflective model is a significant framework to describe the experience gained by a person from participation in a particular task (Rolfe & Freshwater, 2020).

What?

In my 7144SOH-CW1, I have used Gibb’s reflective cycle and presented my experience. On the other hand, also used a good PDP and NHS leadership framework to explore my learning on leadership. I have also used the SMART model to determine my goals along with using the schema theory of leadership in 7144SOH-CW2. Identified strength of my assignments was the appropriate use of a reference list and the effective identification of the skill development areas. On the other hand, I need to learn how to use multiple high-quality sources for developing a critical discussion.

So What?

The assignment has helped me to learn critical writing and critical discussion. It has also helped me to recognise my skill development areas and to understand good leadership qualities through the evaluation of the NHS leadership framework (Patel & Metersky, 2022).

Now What?

Now, I have to follow the following action plan for further development.

GoalSpecificMeasurableAttainableRelevant Time-bound
To improve research skills Need to learn how to search for appropriate journal articles based on the research topicLearn to take 30% less time to search for appropriate articlesLearn to identify quality sources that are accessibleTaking advantage of library sources2 months

PDP: personal development plan to identify my goals and achieve in timely manner

Short Term Goal

(ENHANCING LISTENING SKILL)

Specific:-Enhancement of listening habits is a necessary skill to become a leader in any industrial sector. As stated by Agustin & Ayu (2021, p.5), listening skill ensures the ability of a person to receive accurate information and interpret necessary messages during a communication process. Additionally, listening skill is also required to become a good communicator. I have noticed that I am introverted and feel hesitant to freely talk with others. Thus, the improvement of my listening skill is beneficial to make decisions after thoroughly receiving all necessary information through active listening.

Measurable:-As I am introverted growing up, my listening skill will encourage me to admire the person and listen to his/her voice without having any shyness. I am aiming to achieve this target to grow my listening skill within 1 month of this current semester. I will notice in the class whether I am taking the running notes properly and also measure my ability to talk and discuss the topic that has been taught in the class.

Attainable:-During the University course, I will assign myself to different teamwork so that I can mitigate my introversion and spend more time listening to others. I have also decided to attain different seminars so that I can make myself attentive and focused to listen to what the speaker is approaching. As per the view of Breil & Böckler (2021, p.4), eye contact is necessary during communication which creates a bond between the listeners and speakers. It is obvious  that enhancement of eye contact is required to uplift my listening skill but together with my shyness while speaking I will focus to maintain eye contact while listening to others’ voices.

Relevant:- In the healthcare sector, a leader needs to listen to issues, opinions, and any matters of clinical staff, management, patients, and others. On the other hand, to take necessary decisions during any critical organisational situation it is also necessary to listen to the entire matter thoroughly before gaining any opinion or relevant decision. Thus, by growing my listening skills as a short-term target I can enhance my professional career growth in future targeted professional areas.

Time Bound:- will highly focus on uplifting my listening skill in the next 2 months during this present semester. I am focused that during this timeframe I will definitely grow my listening habit through teamwork, attaining seminars, being attentive in class, and all to make more opportunities in my professional career as a leader.

Medium Term Goal

(ENHANCING COMMUNICATION SKILL)

Specific:- Communication is one of the necessary parts of the healthcare sector as all the departments, staff, employees, patients, and others should be involved in sharing information. Communication skill is thus needed by every professional to ensure information, opinion, and perceptions are shared with others. I will focus on building my communication skills as a medium-term goal during this master’s degree. Additionally, I have faced issues with teamwork to convey my views to others and a lack of ability to communicate freely. Thus, I have observed it to become an issue of others’ discussion as I am unable to present my point freely. Additionally, if I focus on this skill then I can mitigate communication problems and share my views with other members.

Measurable: I am widely focused on participating in different master projects within the team to uplift my communication with others. I will focus on the next 3 months learning different soft skills to become more presentable during communication or meeting. I will measure my progress by analysing my ability to collaborate with others. I have noticed that my introverted personality has made me part of internal controversy or gossip. On the other hand, if there is cooperation of other team members in the academic projects and my ability to present my views to others grows then I will automatically measure my progress and whether I have become a good communicator or not.

Attainable:- In the goal to enhance my communication skill I will involve myself to present queries openly to my mentors related to my academic projects or subjects. Additionally, I will also uplift myself by reading different journals and attending seminars so that I can determine a different approach to be presented in front of a huge audience. On the other hand, I will also focus on learning different languages in the next 3 months so that I can easily understand people communicating in different languages.

Relevant:- Communication is necessary for the healthcare sector to develop trust among patients so that they can freely convey their difficulties to healthcare professionals. As stated by Tripathy (2020, p.6), in the professional field if an individual communicates effectively with all of his colleagues then that would develop trust, and healthy professional relationships, and make the organisation more productive. On the other hand, to become a leader communication is required to make followers aware of different strategies, organisational processes, and other factors taken in the healthcare sector. Thus, after enhancing my communication skills I will be able to engage myself in diverse team cultures by making a collaborative work environment for the team members so that they can do their job with full efficiency.

Time bound:- I will take 5 months to develop my communication skill and focus to participate in more collaborative and team works. I think I will be efficient enough in future group projects to raise my opinion and points in front of others.

Longer Term Goal

(PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT SKILL)

Specific- In the long-term personal development plan I will enhance my focus on personality development skills. As per the view of Hamzah et al., (2020), the development of self-confidence is highly necessary to make oneself never become underestimated by others. Additionally, in the teamwork of healthcare management projects, I have noticed that a lack of self-confidence has affected my ability to participate freely. On the other hand, I am overthinking about how others think about me in teamwork as I am not presentable enough in the team. Thus, personality development is necessary to build my competency level and become more successful in my professional career.

Measurable;-I will focus on different daily issues to identify the best solutions that could be applied. Additionally, in the next 6 months, I will involve myself in different debates to enhance my self-confidence. In this way, to measure my success in this goal, I will do a self-assessment of my daily work to determine what are the difficulties that I have faced and different strategies that I have taken to mitigate or handle any situation. Additionally, I will also collect feedback from others regarding their changing perception and opinion about me in the next 6 months.

Attainable:- Personality development skills involve the advancement of an individual in the professional world by analysing their own ability and capability based on personality traits. Different self-assessment tests are there that make an individual become aware of their strengths and capabilities and take necessary strategies to develop personality skills in the areas where improvement is required (Dabuke et al., 2023, p.3). In this matter, I can say that to grow my personality skills I will first focus on giving self-assessment tests in the online platform to know what skills need to be learned. Additionally, I will also participate in the puzzle-solving tests so that I can make myself more logical and presentative

Relevant:- It has been obscured that personality skills are focused to grow self-confidence, problem-solving, communication ability, listening skills, and others. On the other hand, leadership skills include communication, decision-making, time management, problem-solving, self-development, and others that are highly important to manage an entire team within a workplace (Tymon et al., 2020, p.6). Thus, to make my professional career in the healthcare sector as a leader I will definitely focus on personality skill development. I have noticed that lack of self-confidence is an issue for me to make my views open to all in a team. Thus, I will focus on presenting myself in front of a mirror so that I can determine the issues that are affecting me during open communication.

Time bound:- I will give the next 6 to 8 months in personality skill development to create the chance of personality development for the long run. Additionally, different skills of personality development will uplift my self-confidence to work with others without any hesitation.
