Quiz yourself with Copilot

Description

What? Students ask Copilot to help them review topics they’ve covered so far during their module by giving them an informal quiz, and providing feedback on their answers.

Why? Pop quizzes can help with spaced distribution of practice, (helping move things to the long-term memory) and timely, tailored feedback helps identify knowledge gaps.

Instructions

Step 1: Decide what concept you want to quiz yourself about.

Step 2: Go to Copilot (office.com/chat) and sign in with your Coventry account. If you’re already using Copilot, just select the ‘New chat’ button at the top right.

Step 3: Start the conversation by copying and pasting the following prompt into Copilot. Change the parts in [square brackets] to make it relevant to your chosen concept, then select the ‘Submit’ button (the arrow at the bottom-right):

Quiz me on [the working memory model]. Ask one question at a time. Provide feedback on my answers.

Step 4: Answer the quiz questions that Copilot gives you. Experiment with getting them wrong to see what feedback Copilot gives. Also play around with follow-up questions:

  • Can you make the questions a bit easier / harder?
  • Can you give me a hint?
  • Let’s change topic. Can you quiz me on …

Reflection

  • Did anything surprise you?
  • Did Copilot give you useful feedback?
  • Did it restrict itself to asking questions or did it start giving away the answers?

Important: Always check Copilot’s output. Generative AI tools can hallucinate (create plausible but incorrect information).
